Day 4: June 15, 2010. OMG it was a long way to Colorado. We didn't think Kansas would ever end. Of course Mark was trying to make good time and got pulled over my a Kansas State Patrolman because he was doing 82. Luckily he was a nice southern gentleman from Charleston, SC and only gave us a warning and told Mark to use cruise control. We were lucky on that one.
We have been keeping a list of "weird things we have seen" on this trip.
1. a customized hearse in Clarksville, TN. Tricked out with customized sound system blasting hip hop at an ear splitting level with a huge bass booster. The steering wheel was a bat and the license plate was, "DEDNGON". It hailed from Louisiana, hopefully not a play on the oil spill.
2. Golf ball shaped mailbox, large plaster steer on the side of the interstate and a guy peeing next to a picnic table at a rest area (we wondered why he didn't use the facilities inside).
3. At a Ruby Tuesday's in TN, our bill came with a comment card but on the back of the card was a personal note. At first I thought it was from our server thanking for us for visiting but as we read it, we realized it was between friends who worked at the restaurant. Hopefully the romance and potty training will continue on course.
Our big excitement entering CO was a HUGE thunderstorm. We could see the black clouds ahead of us and the lightening striking the ground. Then we drove into it. Hail, wind, rain. The lightening strikes were bluish purple all around us. It lasted about 10 minutes and then we drove out the back side. Thank goodness.
Today we head up to Rocky Mountains National Park. The stay in Boulder has been nice. This morning is clear, yet cool. We spent the evening walking Pearl Street and taking in the eclectic scene. Boulder has some interesting residents and visitors.
